Everyone Should Make These Home Updates

Don’t wait…make sure your smoke and CO detectors are up to date, placed correctly and in working order today.

Don’t wait…make sure your smoke and CO detectors are up to date, placed correctly and in working order today.

If you are getting ready to sell your home one update you will want to do is to make sure your smoke alarms are in the correct place, that you have enough alarms, and that the batteries work! This is especially important if your city requires a pre sale inspection and if your buyer is doing an inspection. Smoke alarms and CO detectors are flagged more than anything else.

Most homeowners don’t realize that smoke alarms should be replaced after 10 years. If you have been in your home for a few years, your smoke alarms might need to be replaced. Also, the state fire codes are periodically updated so guidelines on placement may have changed since your home was purchased.

Your city’s fire department website will have often have guidelines on where to place detectors. Many fire departments offer free help installing smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. See the links under resources for more information.
